Shoeing!!!

Today was day two of this awesome snow storm and man I had some fun! Joe, Zeus and I went snowshoeing in Frick park again and the snow was incredible, so fun! Joe took this video its short but pretty cool.:)

As you can tell Zeus was psyched to be out in all that snow check out this picture of his snow beard unibrow combo.

Today we pretty much climbed up hills and ran down as fast as we could, such a blast but an incredible workout too.

Zeus is now passed out and snoring, so cute! :)

The entire park is just one big mass of snow so you couldn't help but walk on downed trees and such, it was neat, poor Zeus was a little confused though.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, Go Saints!!! :)

Winter Storm!! :)

So you might have heard that the whole East coast got hit with a ton of snow, here in Pittsburgh we have almost two feet. I'm loving this winter so far, the snow has made for some awesome adventures, today was one of the best days ever. Zeus got up super early this morning anticipating the huge amount of snow coming his way, we both could not wait to get out the door! While Joe shoveled I headed out on my skis it was great, the park was way too deep so I hit the streets.

So Fun! Joe was awesome enough to shovel the sidewalk which was a workout in itself that snow is deep!! Go Joe!

Our neighborhood was a dog's paradise today, there were no cars out so they were out playing in the snow all day.

Later in the day the sun came out and it was spectacular, I've never seen Pittsburgh look so gorgeous. We headed out to Frick for some snowshoeing fun and it was a blast, check it :)

You can't beat running down the hills in all that deep snow, so rad!!

Of course Zeus had a blast I think he was still tired from all the playing.

I swear I have never seen a brighter sun and bluer sky in Pittsburgh than today, its unheard of, I'm definitely not complaining though. :)

Such a fun day, I hope everyone's having a great weekend, thanks for checking out my post. :)

Swimming and Skiing :0

Its already February and that's pretty cool, I hope everyone is having a very good winter its nice knowing spring is just around the corner.:) I've still been sticking to my cross training schedule of swimming and XC skiing that I promised myself I would do for all of February.

We'll see how it goes, I really want excellent well rested legs by spring time, I even signed up to do a 50k in March, can't wait!!

This picture was taken in Boulder during a huge snow storm we had, I took advantage of the snowy streets, it was so cool.

The snow up at the Laurel Ridge where I've been skiing has not been that great, but its still been fun to get out there. This picture was taken up at Brainard lake outside of Boulder, there were some awesome trails up there that were super fun.:)

I just ordered an aqua jog belt so I'm going to be doing some aqua jogging to add in to my mix of things other than running. Aqua jogging is supposed to work the same running muscles without the impact should be cool. Hope you're having some great winter adventures!! :)

Barefoot Running?!?!

There has been a lot of talk recently about barefoot running and how barefoot runners have less injuries because they strike the ball of the foot first rather than the heel. Though the idea of not having to buy running shoes and feeling the dirt under my feet sounds great, there is no way I'm going to try it. I'm thinking physical therapists will be busy as more news of barefoot running unfolds. Check out this link to a recent article I found on NPR.

Study: Humans Were Born To Run Barefoot

The Vibram Barefoot shoe is the new minimalist running shoe that barefooters are using. At least it provides some protection. Definitely not for me though! :)

What do you think of barefoot running? Gonna give it a try? :)

Indian Summer

This is a post by my husband Joe who is going to be sharing some of his adventures on soulrun every now and then, I hope you enjoy it!!

Last week it warmed up in to the 40s and the snow melted! One of my favorite places to ride the Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake were reported to be in good shape. The trails there are amazing, but it is a long drive from home and I didn't want to drive there only to ride in snow and mud.

So I rolled the dice and decided to go. Oh I was not dissapointed.

I rode for  3 hours and never touched snow, barely got muddy and had a grin on my face the whole time.

I was amazed it was dry,  especially since I have not seen dry ground in 6 weeks here in PGH.  I also rode for a bit with a great group of people from the Laurel Highlands Offroad Bike Association.

Also from what I understand it was the last day of hunting season, so I wore a bright yellow Patagonia jacket and put my rain cover on my Deuter Race X Air pack.

You can see in the pic I have my iPod on, Oh a good playlist is important for hours of soul riding out in the woods.

some songs from todays mix

Sugoi Kana Tank

My goal for February is to give my legs a break, I'm going to try and swim as much as I can so that by the spring I'll be back on my long runs, I can't wait! So I was getting ready to go to the pool and could not find my bathing suit, I tore the house apart looking for it too. I loved my bathing suit it was the Sugoi Swim Racer Contrast it fit perfect and didn't fall apart on me like most of my suits. I still can't find it, I have no idea where it could be, its really annoying me.

So anyways, I needed something to swim in right quick and the only thing I could think of was my Sugoi Kana Tank. I wore the hell out of this tank in the summer, it is so versatile, I ran in it, biked in it and now I've found yet another use for it, swimming! I paired it with an old pink bikini bottom and it looked like a tankini, so comfortable to swim in too, definitely great in a pinch.

Here's a picture of it from the Sugoi website, its real cute!

Though it has been great this week swimming in my Kana tank, I really enjoy running in it and don't want the chlorine to destroy it. So I gave in and bought a new bathing suit and I can't wait to get it. I bought the Sugoi bella swim two piece suit

and the bottom...

I'm very excited to take it for a swim, sometimes I need something to inspire my swim and what better way to get me to the pool than my new Sugoi bella swimsuit. :-)

Good music makes all the difference

The past few weeks in Pittsburgh were pretty amazing what with all the snow and such. I was having a great time XC skiing and having fun hiking with Zeus. The snow is gone but the trails are super icy, even with yak traks it gets pretty sketchy. I've been putting in some time down in the basement on the bike trainer and treadmill, which I also love.

here's another view while on the trainer:)

I have a tv and stereo down there so sometimes I pump up the music and zone out. Here are some old and new songs I've been loving. If you have any favorites you'd like to share I'd be psyched!! Ok here you go :)

and my favorite, the Bad Brains.

I recently found this one that I love too.

These are just a few of my favorites, I'll post more when think of them, I hope this gives you some running inspiration. :)
